Library Search for Books

Use the Libraries' ADVANCED SEARCH to find books on your topic in the WMU collection. You can find both primary documents and secondary sources through the catalog.  Just follow the suggestions in the search tips.

If you already know the title or author, use the pull-down arrow to select Title or Author.

When looking for books by topic, enter your keyword(s) into the search boxes.

SEARCH TIP:  If you are using a phrase in your search, be sure and put it in quotation marks, e.g., "northern wei"

SEARCH TIP:  Use an asterisk  *  to pick up variant endings of a word, e.g., dao* will retrieve dao, daoism, daoist, daoists, etc.

SEARCH TIP:  To find primary documents, use one of the boxes in the Advanced Search to include keywords such as: sources OR letters OR diaries OR "personal narratives" OR "oral history" OR correspondence OR speeches.

A Word about the Wikipedia

Although your instructor does not want you citing the Wikipedia as a source, sometimes students can find some VERY useful references at the end of articles published on the Wikipedia.  You could look those references up in Library Search to see if we have them--and remember, you can always try to request them via Interlibrary Loan if the WMU Libraries does not own something you need.

Use WorldCat to identify pertinent resources that are not owned by the WMU Libraries.  You can request books through Interlibrary Loan. We will borrow the book(s) from another library and the service is FREE to you.  This process takes 1-2 weeks.
