CHEM 5750: Chemical Synthesis

Access articles and books through the library

Looking for a specific article?

If you have a full citation, search for the article title in Library Search.

Works cited lists in chemistry articles may use abbreviated citations that do not include article titles. In this case:

  1. Look up the abbreviated journal title in CASSI to get the full title.
  2. Look up the journal title in Library Search (filter for Books and Media).
  3. Click the link under "Online" to get to the electronic version of the journal, and browse to the correct volume, issue, and page.

Getting a source from the library

If the source is available electronically, select the link in the "Online" section. There may be more than one link; if one does not work, try a different one.

For physical items, you will find a library location and call number (example: QD476 .I84) in the "Physical" section. Sign in in the yellow bar.

After signing in you can request the book to pick it up at the front circulation desk. You will receive an email when the book is ready for pick up, typically within a day.

Occasionally you may find a book that is on reserve for a class. The call number may say "2 Hour Reserves". In this case, write down the title and/or call number and go to the library circulation desk to ask for it. You can use the book for 2 hours at a time.

Do you need a source that isn't available on Library Search?

You can still get access to sources that WMU doesn't own by using Interlibrary Loan (ILL). See the guide on Searching Beyond WMU to learn more.

  • The first time you use ILL you will have to create an account.
  • You can get articles delivered electronically.
  • For books, you should try MelCat, which may be faster.

Confused?

Don't hesitate to send me an email or use our live chat to ask for help. Trouble accessing the text of an article or book is one of the most common reasons why people contact the library. We're happy to help!
