Find articles with SciFinder-n

SciFinder uses the term references to refer to articles, books, and other written documents. This search is the most like other database searches you are used to.

SciFinder References search screen capture

Main search bar

When you select References from the left menu, you'll see two search bars. In the main search bar on the top you can include:

  • keywords (i.e., Google-type search)
  • substance name
  • specialized reference numbers (CAS RN, Patent number, PubMed ID, DOI, etc.)

Second search bar

A second search bar under the main one is initially set to search Authors, but you can use the drop-down menu to select from many other fields. Useful fields include:

  • Title
  • Abstract/Keyword
  • Concept
  • Substances

Add more search bars

You can only search for one thing in each search bar, so to add more parameters to your search, use the + sign to add more bars.

View and filter results

Click the magnifying glass to search. Then filter your results using the many options in the left menu. If your search didn't return many results, select the blue edit search button at the top of the screen. Broaden your search by removing some parameters or changing your keywords and try again.
