The WMU Libraries contains a series of excellent histories, with accompanying bibliographies, published by Blackwell, Oxford and Cambridge.  There are some searching tricks in the online catalog to get to these.  The Libraries does subscribe to the Cambridge Histories Online, and the link is at the bottom.

Using the Libraries' ADVANCED SEARCH try these searches:

For the Blackwell series:

1st search box type:   "blackwell companion"
2nd search box type:  history    [or a more specific keyword such as ancient or medieval or "american history"]

For the Oxford University Press titles:

1st search box type:   "oxford history of"
2nd search box:         type keyword(s) on your topic, as we did in the searches above
