About Study Communities

University Library Study Communities

Fall 2022

What is a Study Community?

Study groups help you structure studying time, meet new people, and help you build accountability. Study communities are not tutoring session! They are an opportunity to focus on schoolwork in a relaxed and social environment.

Study Communities are:

  • Open to all students.
  • Often more social than studious. A lot can be learned in these moments.
  • Hosted by student peers from the Lee Honors College and the University Libraries.
  • Structured around similar study areas. Study community members will be matched with other students based on 5 focus areas:
    • STEM: Science, Math, Engineering, etc.
    • Humanities: English, languages, philosophy, etc.
    • Creative: Art ,Music, Dance, Writing
    • Social Sciences: Business, Education, etc..
    • Health and Human Services
  • Not just for majors. You can choose whichever subject you would like.
  • Held in Waldo Library, room 3015.
    • Sunday 5-7 or 7-9
    • Monday 7-9
    • Tuesday  7-9
    • Wednesday  7-9
    • Friday 10-12

The Libraries Engagement Team

Kate Langan, Engagement Librarian

I've been at WMU Libraries since 2009. I am excited to meet everyone and connect people to each other in addition to resources and services that will help you succeed in school and life. I have four children, one at WMU, one at K College, on at Hackett, and my youngest is at Milwood Middle School. I love to ice skate, water ski, and play NYTimes word games. I just started ballet last year and am obsessed!
