EDLD Masters / Doctoral Seminar

Requesting books and articles that are not available full text

Students and faculty may  request delivery of articles, books, and videos from University Libraries. You also have the option to have books and videos held for pickup at Waldo Library.  or have them held to be picked up at Waldo Library. This service is free of charge to WMU students, faculty and staff.

Journal articles are generally scanned and sent to your email box within a few short days of request. Articles from WMU collections usually arrive within 24 hours.

Use your Interlibrary Loan account to request delivery of documents. You will get an email when your material is available. To retrieve articles, sign in to your Interlibrary Loan account and under 'View' click on 'Electronically Received Articles'. Any items not available at the University Libraries will automatically be requested from another library through Interlibrary Loan.

Many of our journal databases allow you to put in an interlibrary loan request directly from the database itself.  Be on the lookout for this button in whatever database you are searching .  You will click on it to see if WMUhas access to the item electronically. If there is not link to full text access you will see a link underneath it that says "Not available online?."  Just login in with your BroncoNetID and password and let the system do the rest.

To request shipping of physical materials:

  • Within the item description in Library Search, click the “Place Hold, Reserve or Recall Item" link in the Physical section.
  • Add your complete mailing address to the "Ship to my address field," including zip code and/or apartment or building number. Items cannot be shipped to a PO Box.
  • Your item will be shipped to this address within 2-4 business days.

To request pickup of materials at Waldo Library:

  • Within the item description in Library Search, click the "Place Hold, Reserve or Recall Item" link in the Physical section, leaving the “Ship to my address” field blank.
  • Once you have placed your online request, University Libraries will retrieve the item, package it for pick up and hold it at Waldo Library.
  • You will receive a notice through your wmich.edu email account when the item is ready for pick up.

How long can I keep the things I have checked out?

Graduate students are granted a one-semeter loan period for books in the WMU collections. Books that come from other libraries through the interlibrary loan service generally havs a 4-week loan period. Sometimes these materials may be renewed and sometimes there are no renewals allowed. When a book is sent to you it wil have a banner on the cover indicating the due date and whether or not it can be renewed.  Pleast pay attention to the due date and renewal information.

WMU books and interlibrary loan books may be renewed on the My Accounts page.

Library policies on checking out all types of materials for undergraduate and graduate students are available here.  These pages also includes information on renewing your materials.
