Newspaper databases' search bars are similar to the ctrl F (find in page) function; they look only for the words you searched. Instead of like other databases where you can search for what something is about more broadly, newspapers are scanned and uploaded without the categorization information that other databases add to their items. So, you have to select words and phrases that may have been used in the time period you are searching for. This may be outdated langague.
For information on suffragists, some good keywords are: "votes for women" "women's suffrage" "women vote" suffragette
You can also refine your search to a specific date range and type of article (Election Returns and Legislative Acts/Legislative Proceedings are most relevant) using the buttons to the left of your search results.
