Introduction to College Research

A guide for high school visits

Introduction

Welcome! This guide is a general introduction to college research for anyone who is new to Waldo Library. Use the tabs along the left to explore different pages of this guide.

Most of our library resources are available on-site, during library hours, to anyone who comes into the library. Visitors will have to use one of our library computers to access our electronic materials. Only WMU students and employees can access our electronic materials on their own computers and off campus.

Subject Guides

This guide is a general introduction to research, but it doesn't include information for specific academic subjects. To find the best resources for your project, you also need to consult one of our subject guides.

Scroll through the list of subjects to find one (or more) relevant to your topic. If you need help knowing which subject to choose, ask a librarian.

Once you find your subject guide, use it to find:

  • article databases relevant to your subject
  • background resources like encyclopedias and dictionaries
  • the contact information for the librarian that specializes in your subject
