Overview
In1996, the Academy of American Poets chose April to be National Poetry Month. The Academy aimed to celebrate the contributions and accomplishments of American poets in educational institutions, libraries, bookstores, and nonprofit organizations throughout the United States and Canada. Engaging events such as poetry readings, poetry festivals, displays and exhibits, workshops are promoted to help Americans learn more about poetry and its place in national contemporary culture.
