Welcome to the ENGL 1050 Library Lab

  1. Get out your device or ask to borrow a laptop.
  2. Go to libguides.wmich.edu/ENGL1050
  3. Download the assignment sheet from the Assignment Sheet tab on the left.

To receive credit, upload your completed assignment to the Elearning dropbox titled "DROPBOX: Library Lab" found in your English 1050 course shell.

Introduction

The library lab will introduce you to tools to help you locate and assess the resources you will use for your autoethnography paper. You will be able to complete the assignment during the lab.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this lab, you will be able to...

  • Use the Research Honeycomb Model to develop a strategy to gather information from various source types.
  • Evaluate a variety of source types.
  • Create a citation for a source.

Schedule

This Library Lab will use a workshop format where the majority of the time will be spent working in small groups with people who are searching for similar voice types in the Research Honeycomb.

  1. Introduction: Going over the assignment and getting into our research groups.
  2. First Research Group: Work together to find sources for your autoethnography based on a voice type in the Research Honeycomb. The librarian rotates between the groups to help.
  3. Second Research Group: Select a different voice type in the Research Honeycomb. Work together with your new group to find sources for your autoethnography. The librarian rotates between the groups to help.
  4. Conclusion: Complete the reflection as your exit ticket.
