Research and Course Work

• Perform more focused and effective literature searches: schedule a research consultation with your subject ibrarian
• Save time by using article databases alert services (i.e., you're notified when an article matching a specific criteria is published in the database). Here's info on how to use alert services in:

  • For other databases, contact your subject librarian
• Increase awareness of your research: include your book or thesis or dissertation in ScholarWorks, WMU's institutional repository
• Stay organized. Learn how to use a citation management software, like Zotero or Mendeley.
• Obtain more easily hard-to-find articles and other resources: use the libraries' inter-library loan services
• Manage more efficiently research data : use our research data management subject guide

Teaching

• Tell your students about the WMU Libraries' Public Affairs and Administration subject guide
• Have students view videos on library research skills in ProQuest Research Companion and WMU Libraries Instruct
• Are your students not using appropriate info sources for their class work, or not citing sources well? Help your students learn the skills to do better library research: schedule an instruction session with the biological sciences librarian or have the librarian suggest library research curriculum ideas
• Focus your students on relevant, scholarly literature: contact your subject librarian - she will make a custom course guide
• Explore alternatives to costly textbooks. through's the Libraries’ Textbook Alternatives Guide and WMU's Open Education Resources page.. You're students will be relieved!
