Research Impact Challenge

Improving the narrative of your research impact

  • Spend some time reflecting on this week's challenges and the questions. Think back to this week's challenge and consider how you might combine what you learned into telling a compelling story about the reach, significance, and impact of your scholarly or creative work.
  • Look back at your past cover letters (or grant applications, tenure packet, etc.) and think about some ways you would like to improve your narrative using what we've covered during the challenge and the guiding questions.
  • This spreadsheet is designed to help you think about your work and how to represent it.

Completing the challenge

The goal of this exercise is to give you an opportunity to think about the various forms of your scholarly labor, and give you some structure for understanding what's important to you, and to people who might read your work. This wilol help you better understand how to promote it, and how to talk about it in various contexts.

Complete the spreadsheet as best you can. It's OK if only a few of the categories pertain to what you do.

Upload the spreadsheet here to get credit for the activity.

Note: The spreadsheet was developed by Rebecca Welzenbach from the University of Michigan, and revised by Christina Miskey from University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
